Public Safety Review Panel

Assesses and advises the Secretary of Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) and to the courts with respect to public safety related to the proposed Conditional Release or Final Discharge of patients found not guilty by Reason of Insanity (NGRI) committed to Western State Hospital (WSH) or Eastern State Hospital (ESH). The Panel provides advice regarding all recommendations for a change in commitment status, to allow furloughs or temporary leaves accompanied by staff, or to permit movement about the grounds of the treatment facility, with or without the accompaniment of staff.

Member Requirements: The members of the public safety review panel shall include the following: a psychiatrist; a licensed clinical psychologist; a representative of the department of corrections; a prosecutor or a representative of a prosecutor's association; a representative of law enforcement or a law enforcement association; a consumer and family advocate representative; and a public defender or a representative of a defender's association.
