Washington State Quarter

April 1, 2005: Governor Gregoire established the Washington State Quarter Advisory Commission
Executive Order 05-04

July 30, 2005: Deadline for Washingtonians to submit their quarter design ideas to the Quarter Advisory Commission.

October 4, 2005: Based on the recommendations of the Quarter Advisory Commission, Governor Gregoire sends five design ideas to the U.S. Mint.

December 2005: The U.S. Mint sends five pictorial designs, based on the submitted design ideas, back to the Quarter Advisory Commission.  The Quarter Advisory Commission narrows the field down to three options.

January 19, 2006: The Quarter Advisory Commission releases the final three designs to the citizens of Washington.

April 2006: Washingtonians vote for their favorite quarter design in an online poll.

May 4, 2006: Governor Gregoire announced the Washington recommendation at Centennial Elementary School in Olympia, Washington.
Final Design

June 22, 2006: The Department of the Treasury approves final design.

February 27, 2007: The Washington quarter began being minted at the Denver facility.

March 2, 2007: Washington quarter began being minted at the Philadelphia facility Approximately 10 weeks of production and between 500 million and 600 million Washington state quarters will be produced.

April 2, 2007: Washington quarters arrive at Federal Reserve Bank in Seattle.

April 3rd onward: Banks that have placed supply orders will start receiving Washington quarters in small amounts; the majority of available Washington quarters are reserved for the sponsor bank (Bank of America) and the April 11 launch.

April 11: Governor Gregoire launches the Washington quarter at the official release event at Seattle Center.
