Washington's Budget

State law requires that Governor Gregoire submit a balanced budget. The proposed 2010 supplemental budget reflects the very difficult decisions made to do just that.

Washington state has experienced a year unprecedented since the Great Depression. This year is all about austerity and sacrifice, but equally, it’s about wise and careful choices to ensure we come out of this recession strong.

We are preparing our state for a 21st century economy — especially in the enormous steps we took to build a transportation system that will create thousands of jobs and help us emerge stronger from this recession. Our proposals to reform Washington state government are another step in a comprehensive effort to fundamentally revamp the way programs and services are provided throughout the state.
