Creating the Task Force
Governor Chris Gregoire requested and the 2005 Legislature approved Second Substitute House Bill 1220, establishing a joint legislative and executive task force on long term care financing and chronic care management.
The Long Term Care Task Force will review public and private financing and make recommendations related to:
- Composition of a long term care system adequate to meet needs;
- Efficient models that will effectively sustain funding of LTC;
- Laws and regulations that should be revised and/or eliminated to reduce or contain cost;
- Feasibility of private options which will enable individuals to pay for LTC;
- Options that support the needs of rural communities.
Recommendations will also be made for chronic care management and strategies to prevent disabilities to reduce health care and LTC costs to individuals and the State.
With the assistance of three advisory committees in chronic-care management and disability prevention, current system evaluation and new funding models, and with direct input from community stakeholders, the Task Force will prepare and present three reports to the Governor and appropriate committees of the Legislature.
