Since December 2005, First Mike has traveled the state visiting elementary schools and libraries. He reads the lively The True Story of the Three Pigs, by Jon Scieszka. His school visits demonstrate to students the fun of sharing a good book and the importance of reading at least 20 minutes every day. First Mike also enjoys the opportunity to thank the many dedicated librarians, teachers, principals, staff, and volunteers for their good work helping our young people become skilful readers and strong students.
First Mike has visited at least one elementary school in each of the state’s 39 counties. In June 2008, he celebrated his 100th school reading with 3rd grade students at Sheridan Elementary in Spokane.
